Many who have left comments seem to share the same sentiments about this song, however, I look at this differently to most. If anyone here watched Andy and Victoria on Phil Donahue in 1981, you can see just how important this was to Andy. Watching him speak so lovingly of not just the song, but the collaboration with Victoria, really meant something to him. Sadly though, their relationship was more fragile than many of us ever knew.
It became common knowledge in the industry of Andy's struggle with his cocaine addiction, and there has been suggestions that Victoria was also rumoured to be having addictons of her own to the same drug. Putting that together makes for a delicate combination, so it appeared Victoria did handle her own issues when Andy clearly couldn't, and to those who said they married, well that is inaccurate - according to Andy they were only engaged while Victoria has never confirmed her status with Andy but to say he gave her a large promise ring which she wore on her left hand, and she subsequently kept that said ring when they split up.....
As many have said, Andy had it all - but in truth he didn't. Andy's own wife gave him the ultimatum when carrying their unborn child - it is a matter of record and fact, he wanted the lifestyle he chose, and it has also been documented on various platforms that the Gibb Family always veered away from the truth when it came to Andy and his personal problems. I am not blaming his family for protecting his life and legacy, but, realistically, Victoria wasn't entirely to blame for Andy's choices.
Barry has himself acknowledged he doesn't blame Victoria, but, by barring her from attending Andy's funeral tells me there was still underlying issues long after their relationship had ended. Only Victoria and Andy knew the truth of their relationship and subsequent breakup, but one has to wonder about Victoria still recognising Andy on his birthday on social media - many years after they not only split up, but since Andy has passed. Watching interviews of Victoria from back then after their breakup gave me the impression she seemed cold and more than willing to move on, yet, looking at her now, I get the sense that maybe there is some regret with how they ended and to what Andy actually means to her.
Still a sad story all around, no matter how good this song is and how good they were as couple.....
