Review by Carmelo Gonzalez

The album "Cellokonzert Op 104 Waldesruhe Op 68" by Dvořák, featuring Jacqueline du Pré, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Daniel Barenboim, is a masterpiece of classical music that showcases the talents of all involved.

The cello concerto Op. 104 is a stunning work that demands both technical virtuosity and emotional depth from the performer, and du Pré delivers in spades. Her playing is both powerful and nuanced, with a rich, warm tone that perfectly captures the melancholic beauty of Dvořák's music.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Barenboim, provides a lush and expressive accompaniment that perfectly complements du Pré's playing. The orchestra's playing is full of energy and passion, and they bring out the full range of colors and emotions in Dvořák's music.

In addition to the cello concerto, the album also includes "Waldesruhe Op. 68," a hauntingly beautiful piece for cello and orchestra. Once again, du Pré's playing is nothing short of breathtaking, and the orchestra provides a sensitive and supportive accompaniment.

No hard feelings, this can't hold the candle to Antal Dorati, the LSO & Janos Starker.

Tears when I hear Jacqueline play. Sometimes it's emotions of joy and at others sorrow. for she had the ability to feel each note with a light that I will always remember ✨️ ? RIP

A recording that places this cellist right up front, up center, where perfection is required, for judgement even by those with an untrained ear. And she delivers beautifully, with strength and passion, demanding of herself more than it's usually required in a great performance. A tragic and glorious musical genius who elevated Dvorak's and Elgar's Cello Concertos to another level: a level that only she could reach in such brief career. For us, her devoted fans, she is a loss and a triumph.
I love how you can hear her take a breath in between the most challenging parts. Not only did she put her heart and soul into this performance, but every ounce of physical energy she could summon.

20:06 to 20:21, that transition is insane, followed by the most beautiful scale-playing
