Review by Rich Sheraton

Consensus, the latest album by Swedish saxophonist Joakim Milder, is a stunning example of contemporary jazz at its finest. Featuring a cast of talented musicians, including pianist Bobo Stenson, bassist Anders Jormin, and drummer Jon Fält, the album showcases Milder's virtuosic playing and innovative compositions.

From the opening track, "The Third Degree," Milder sets the tone for the album with his intricate saxophone lines and dynamic phrasing. The band follows suit, seamlessly weaving together complex rhythms and harmonies to create a sound that is both modern and timeless.

Tracks like "Iris" and "The Middle Way" highlight Milder's ability to create beautiful melodies that are both emotional and evocative. The interplay between the musicians is particularly impressive on these tracks, with each member of the band contributing to the overall sound in a meaningful way.

Consensus is not just an album of technical prowess, however. Milder's compositions are deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, but they also incorporate elements of classical music and folk music, creating a unique sound that is distinctly his own.
