Review by Tuyết Hồ Thiên Thủy

Simeon's self-titled album, Simeon, is a captivating and experimental piece of work that showcases the artist's musical prowess. The album is a mix of electronic and rock music, with a touch of psychedelia that gives it a unique and refreshing sound.

The album's opening track, "Dancing in the Sun," sets the tone for the rest of the album, with its pulsating beats and dreamy vocals. Simeon's use of synthesizers throughout the album is impressive, and it adds an otherworldly element to the music.

The album's standout track is "Cosmic Pioneer," which is a beautiful, ethereal piece that transports the listener to another dimension. The track's use of spacey sound effects and Simeon's haunting vocals make it a mesmerizing experience.

About Simeon

Simeon was the house band in the early years at Toronto's Master's Workshop recording studio and also did live Christian music concerts. So this is the title song from the album which is also the name of the band. You can read the story of the 'original' Simeon in the Christmas story in Luke 2.

Check out track 2, entitled "Simeon," at about 2:30 on the album. It's a beautiful, evocative song that imagines the thoughts of Simeon as he encounters Jesus, then reflects on what he might have thought later. There's an amazing, Chicago-esque horn bridge in the middle of the song as well.

I had the privilege to record an 18-song demo in that studio wayyy back in 1983. Doug and company set me up at the grand piano and vocal mic, and then my acoustic guitar and vocal..... They just let the recorder roll while I went from one song to the next. I also got to open for one of their concerts. Great band, great bunch of guys. Great memories. God is gooood : )

Simply love those awesome seventies keyboards and synths and smooth guitar lines! Plus, definitely apiece with such underrated bands from that era like Orleans and Pablo Cruise. The kind of combos now largely relegated to airplay in throwback vans equipped with sweet 8-Track players and lots of room in the back for on-the-go 'shenanigans!'
