Review by Álvaro Sánchez Sánchez

Astro Lounge, the second studio album by American rock band Smash Mouth, was released in 1999 to critical acclaim. The album combines elements of rock, pop, and ska, creating a fun and upbeat sound that is quintessentially Smash Mouth.

The album's lead single, "All Star," became an instant hit, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming a cultural phenomenon in its own right. Other standout tracks on the album include "Then The Morning Comes," "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby," and "Road Man."

Summary by Álvaro Sánchez Sánchez

Astro Lounge showcases the band's infectious energy and catchy hooks, making it a perfect summer soundtrack. The album is a testament to Smash Mouth's ability to create music that is both fun and meaningful, and it remains a classic of the late 90s/early 2000s pop rock era.

Bouncy, soulful, rockin', and diverse, "Astro Lounge" shows the band taking a more focused and less punk approach with their sound, and the results are pretty great. The composition is excellent and diverse, the material is not only hooky and fun, but also deep and relatable at times, the structure is good, and the focus is razor sharp. This all results in a package that shows the band growing, and doing one hell of a job at it. However, much like the album beforehand, the production is glossier than a polished diamond, and that's not exactly a great thing. That's not to say it isn't good, as everything is crisp and well mixed. In fact, the problem is that it's a little TOO well mixed. While the album sounds good, the auto tune used for Steve Harwell's voice is very noticeable at times, and the album never feels as raw as I think it could have. It feels like the album, despite it having some solid gold stuff in it, tries a bit too hard to be radio friendly. Not as bad as bands like Nickelback or Creed, but still pretty noticeable, and something I wish was done differently. Aside from that, the album is really enjoyable, and if you can look past the squeaky clean production, you've got some all star classics here that you'll most likely enjoy until the morning comes that'll make you say "I can't get enough of you, baby".8.4/10

Anyone know if that opening “good morning!“ is from something? Or is it something they came up with themselves?

While the stuff we have now right now (21 Savage, Metro Boomin, Maroon 5, The Weeknd & Ed Sheeran) are enjoyable, I would want to live in an age where both smash mouth and lil baby are hitting billboard 100 instead of just 2 artists

Very unique stuff. I didn't appreciate the full power of these guys back when I first heard it. Some of the grooves were done by the Zombies back in the 60s. Not sure if they were influenced or if this was just influence. Listen to "She's Not There

We met all of Smash Mouth back in 2014 after an Awesome Concert in Las Vegas, NV. Everyone was so kind and down to earth. What an Epic Band! This is My Fave Smash Mouth Song, although I Love all Their Music!
No joke, for the longest time I thought the apocalypse was approaching every time I heard this song as a kid. Something about it sparked a fear I could never explain.??
