On this day in 1965 {October 17th} "The Letter" by Sonny and Cher entered Billboard's Top 100 chart at position #100, four weeks later it would peak at #75 and that would also be it's fifth and final week on the Top 100...
"The Letter" was track two of side two on the duo's debut album, 'Look At Us'*, the album peaked at #2 {for 8 weeks} on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart, and for the eight weeks it was at #2, the #1 album for those eight weeks was the "Help" movie soundtrack by the Beatles...
Salvatore Phillip 'Sonny' Bono passed away on January 5th, 1998 at the age of 62...
May he R.I.P.
* One other track from the album also made the Top 100 chart, "I Got You Babe

I think that this was first issued on Vault Records as Caesar and Cleo as well - This has the sound of what Sonny Bono learned while he was with Specialty Records.

I met him on a business transaction in September 1962. He told me all about him and his work in the music business. At first I didn't believe him. How could he be a record producer, he was working the counter at Merit Music, they pressed 45's at the time. He was about 10 years older then me and told me all about the business I was getting into. He gave me some very good cautionary advice and I appreciated it. Never saw him again after that but it was my 30 minutes with Sonny Bono and I never forgot it. RIP Pal.
